Organising Leaflet Delivery Staff Part 2 Organising Leaflet Delivery Staff Part 2

Organising Leaflet Delivery Staff Part 2 Organising Leaflet Delivery Staff Part 2

Solo Leaflet Deliverers

This is a more laid back method of employing leaflet delivery, distribution staff once it's organised, and this is how it works.

Each member of staff works purely on there own and ideally should have there own car. You pay them an additional small mileage allowance, which equates roughly to the price of a gallon of petrol every 40 to 50 miles they travel. Staff members who don't have a car are limited to working local, using public transport or relying on family and friends to ferry them around. You divide up your whole delivery area into separate delivery zones of between one and two thousand properties using an A to Z map. You then give each delivery zone a unique reference number.

Unfortunately, in order to know the number of houses in any given zone or postcode you'll either have to subscribe to the Royal Mail PAF file, which is very expensive, or...Go to your local Planning Office and obtain what to allintents and purposes is like an ordnance survey map that shows every street and building.

You'll have to pay for this, and you may have to show some persuasiveness in order to get hold of it, but it'll be well worth it. (It's what planners and builders use)

It won't be totally up to date but that doesn't matter, you can count each building on the map until you have roughly 1,000 + buildings that fit nicely into a delivery zone that you can mark out on an A to Z map.

Then in order to keep the number of buildings up to date, you make it a condition in the 'training and instruction' leaflet that leaflet delivery staff will take note of any empty buildings, demolished buildings and new properties so you can remove or add to the number of leaflets as required.

It's not perfect but over time it starts to work pretty well, there isn't any perfect way of doing this unless you subscribe to the Royal Mail PAF file.

I'm told this information is available free somewhere unfortunately I've never been able to find it! If you find it I'd appreciate you letting me know.

You then photocopy A4 size maps and mark out each unique referenced delivery zone, counting out the exact number of leaflets for each zone.

Please Note: You can also include anything you want on this sheet or on the reverse side. You may wish to include:
The deliverers name and address.
Date the leaflets where given out to the deliverer.
Date they are expected to be delivered by.
The rate of pay per thousand leaflets + all other
information or requirements you feel are necessary.

You then deliver the map or maps together with the exact number of leaflets to each of your solo leaflet deliverers. They are usually given a week to deliver all the leaflets,

and you pay them based on delivering all the leaflets for that given week.

You make it a requirement for them to telephone the office after a few days to report on delivery progress, or to say they've completed the work.

The downside to this method of employment is you'll loose some hands on control; you have to trust they'll deliver all the leaflets.

You have to telephone them after few days, if they haven't called you, and, if for whatever reason they fail to complete the delivery, you, or another of your leaflet

deliverers would then have to deliver the remaining leaflets.

The upside is that once you've established a team of reliable solo deliverers this is a great way to get leaflets out.

A staff member who wants flexible hours can do a couple of hours per day, or work whenever they wish even in the evenings.

Once you've farmed out the leaflets for delivery you're free to work on expanding your business.

Final Words When Employing Staff When employing staff, any staff:

Be friendly. Motivate with kind words and 'incentives where appropriate'.

Lead by example.

Don't expect your staff to do anything that you wouldn't do

yourself.

Go out and work with your staff from time to time.

Always keep your promises.
